A Better Mouse Trap

August 19, 2008

Everyone always talks about a better mouse trap. I wish they would just make the old ones right.

I bought three rat traps a few weeks ago. I've yet to catch a rat with any of them. Every time I place the traps, the rat eats all of the bait off the trap without setting it off. Last night I wrapped a small thin piece of wire around the cheese to hold it on. This morning the wire lay next to the trap, the cheese gone, and the trap still set and "ready"! I pushed on the lever, and was shocked how much pressure it took to set off the trap. What a piece of junk.

It's not the first time I've been disappointed in the quality of something that should work but doesn't. Why would something as simple as a mouse trap be so hard to make with decent quality? I think it's because people get what they demand - price not quality. I bought those traps at Home Depot. I noticed they were a different brand than I had ever seen before. Probably rather than raise the price, Home Depot went with another vendor. Except for the logo, they look the same, they were cheap, but they were junk.

Once again, quality beats price in the long run.
